1993 corolla tranny swap with prizm tranny?

I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla that I replaced the motor and tranny out of a 93 Prizm. Everything works great except for the tranny shifting now. I can manually shift it out and it shifts fine. If i put it in drive and take off, it tries to take off in 3rd gear. The Prizm tranny is an overdrive and my car was originally a 3 speed. What all am I getting into changing? I tried changing the ECM but no good there. They both say toyota on them? Where do I start, or have I already reached the end. Any help would be appreciated. Local shops just laugh at me when I tell them what is up. It is getting very aggrevating!

You did replace a hydraulic tranny with an electronic one. I'm not sure if there is a trsnny computer that controls the shifting along with the ECM, but you could probably research this.

You've got a different engine and transmission than what your car originally came with (bumped your displacement up to 1.8L and got another gear). To get normal functionality you need to swap out the wiring in your Corolla for the wiring in the Prizm, the transmission you put in is controlled by the ECM whereas your previous transmission wasn't. You may have swapped the ECM, but until it can send signals to the tranny it won't shift normally.

Also... grab the shifter assembly out of the Prizm, you'll need to install that so you can get the overdrive off button.

Will I have to change all of the dash wiring in order for everything to work? Will it be easier to just put the tranny out of the corolla back in it? I don't know where to begin or end! Thanks for the information though.

You'll also need to find where you can install the ECT computer and connect it to the ECM computer, since the ECT gets its signal to shift from the ECM. Sounds like a lot of work and wiring.
