A/C Condensation in Cabin

I recharged my daughters 96 Corolla and while driving she noticed that there was water coming from under the dash on the passenger side. I took a look at it today and found is was coming from the housing that sits behind the glove box. The housing has a broken section (about a 2" dia hole on the bottom and this is where the water is dripping from.

I would prefer not to replace the housing and can deal with the condensation. However, Besides a wet floor mat, am I at risk of damage?

Where does the condensation that drips from under the car come from? I was wondering is maybe some of what usually is drained through a drain tube on the undercarriage is finding its way into the cabin.

well after a while your gonna have a mildue smelling carpet and that is gonna rotten out as for the hole am not sure if it is suppose to have one but i do know there is a rubber hose which drains the condensation out of the housing outside the fire wall so check to see if its there.

blocked drain like above, silicone something over the hole and repair the clogged drain, may need to pull the blower motor out to clean it out. look from under on the firewall.

I'll get a diagram, I'm not sure if Haynes will show it. I installed a new blower motor last winter and cleaned out the housing area and much as possible.

topnotch: for now my daughter has a towel to catch the water and that way she can remove the towel to let it dry to avoid mildew. Certainly not a fix, but at least it will avoid the mildew.

She's thrilled to have A/C and I think the car could be filled with water and she wouldn't care.

The car has 250K miles and probably is living its last year, although this thing has no signs of stopping except for the body. It's a point a to point b car and for $1200 over 3+ years, it did its job.

strum, as bitter mentioned, u gotta clear out the drain tube. sounds like something has clogged the tube up and the condensation is overflowing into the cabin. click on the DIY section at the top of the forum, you'll see a list of DIYs: click on A/C odor cleaning. this is the one i posted and i took a really nice pic of the evaporator drain tube under my car. this is the tube u have to check to see if its clear or clogged full of debris. the tube is right under the power steering pump sticking out from the firewall ya can't miss it man. get a flashlight and start poking around and see what u find
