5900K Xenon Bulbs Too Much Power?

I'm thinking about ordering a set of 5900K xenon bulbs (not the true HID conversion with separate ballasts). The bulbs are rated at 100w. Is this going to be a problem? Can my stock electrical system handle the extra load?

I wouldn't go with 100w bulbs. But that's just me.

Things are gonna get all melty- you're going to have almost twice the current going through as before. Also, the reduction of the yellow/orange light from the bulb due to the filtration will leave you with much less light than before-- the blue portion that remains is difficult for the eye to process.

I feel bad now. Literally JUST ordered them before re-checking this thread. So they will definitely be too much? They won't just be "higher than rated"? Because they're payed for and on the way...

yeah, you should see if you can return them. that kind of wattage will produce a LOT of heat, definitely melting the stock harness and possibly plug, but also likely to melt the housing itself.

id only run 100watt bulbs in something with a glass housing, and with beefy wire behind it.

why not hid?

i had great results running 6k hid in the stock housings, now im saving up for some black depo/jdm lights to complete the look. but honestly, the light output is great, they pull a bit less power than stock, and i rarely get flashed (like 2x in 8 months)

You better upgrade your wiring harness to heavy duty version if you plan on running those bulbs.

It's a fire hazard.

He should actually just not plan on running those bulbs, and just plan on returning them. The HIR2 (9012) will way outperform any of that blue-tinted junk.

I hope they accept a return, and I hope they pay for shipping too, since they can damage my vehicle.

For the harnesses, are you guys talking about these?:

Or with a nail trimmer and a bastard file and a couple minutes to spare, you can slap 9011 HIRs in there and get even more brightness and the stock light pattern...

Absolutely do not put 9011s into a 9006 socket.

(Unless you want your vehicle impounded)
The light pattern will change constantly due to the smaller shank on a 9011 compared to a 9012.

Moisture can build up, ruining the reflectors and possibly shattering the bulb.

Consumer law is presumably on your side, since the bulbs do not pass the "fitness of merchantibility" test (being illegal to install and also potentially damaging your vehicle).

No.

That's just an extension cord. It'll reduce voltage to the bulbs, and the factory wires still are carrying the current to the 'harness' itself and create a hot spot where the factory harness plugs onto it. It's like putting a 20 amp fuse after a 10 amp fuse-- it doesn't upgrade the current carrying capacity of the circuit because that 10a fuse is there and the thinner wiring is still there.
