93 1.8 missing between 1500-2000 RPMS

my son's 93 is missing/running rough between 1500 and 2000 rpms.

It was idling very rough and swapping the plug wires didn't help so I took them back.

I put on a new distributor cap and rotor and new plugs and that seems to have fixed the idle problem.

Also one of the ring seals on the valve cover plug insert looked like it might be bad.

Could plug wires be the cause of the acceleration problem or is it more likely a vacuum issue?

I see this sort of question on just about EVERY board I peek at! There are all kinds of maintenance items that a 15 yo car can have, and you have to address them all. Since you think the seal ring is bad REPLACE IT. If those spark plug wires that are on it are over 5 years old, REPLACE THEM. Same goes with plugs and lots of other bits.

But the first thing I do to ANY engine before wrenching on it is a leakdown test. It lets you know the internal condition of the engine and if its even worth putting time and parts on it to make it run better.
