DIY Tint

Have any of you guys had much success tinting windows yourself? I would like to tint mine, but don't really want to pay 100+ dollars for it, so I'm considering doing it myself.

I've been looking around and 35% is the darkest I can have on the front doors, I am looking to the 4 doors and the rear glass. I may do a strip on the windshield but it has to be replaced so that will be later. I looked into the DIY kits and they run about 80.00 plus shipping, and that's almost what I can pay someone to do it for.

A squeegee isn't hard to find or make, I may have to buy the solution, and tint online can be had reasonably. The only problem is I'm afraid I'll mess it up or it will bubble later on. Is it hard to remove if I do screw up? I'm pretty handy, but I've never fooled with tinting before. Also, about how many windows will a roll of tint do?

Thanks.

There are a lot of things you can do yourself on the car to save money but tinting isn't one of them.

With tint film, you get what you pay for.

So if you cheap out and get the no-name dyed films, you'll see bubbling and the dreaded purple color in as little as a few months time.

I would recommend taking it to a reputable shop that has name brand tint films like LLumar, 3M, FORMULA ONE or Huper Optik.

Tinting is one of the things that I wouldn't consider doing myself. If you've never done it before then chances are that it will turn out badly. The back window would be the hardest to do, and if you stuff it up you risk damaging the rear demister lines when removing it. For the sake of $100, you may as well take it to the professionals and get it done properly. Most places offer a warranty on the workmanship and on the actual tint itself. If you do decide to attempt the job yourself, then I wish you the best of luck

i have tinted windows in just about every vehicle i have had and with the corolla i found the easiest and best looking way is to take the windows out except for far back window i tinted mine in my house took about two hours that includes taking doors apart and tinting the windows you want to razor blade windows buy some tinton spray a couple of disposable razor knifes a hard plastic bondo speader a rubber wedge or squeegee andthe use of a blowdryer cost me thirty five dollars for all sides and six inch strip on front had back one done at shop fifty dollars another way is copy paper and masking tape make a templet cut tint then put on with windows still in car you can not look at it as saving money either fork out upfront to have somone else do itwitch where i'm at is two hundred and forty dollars ouch or do it yourself and it's material and your labor i prefer second way myself go to youtube and lookup diy windowtinting and yes it can be very frustating at times but don't be bashfull and give it a try

I work for a tint shop. GET IT DONE PROFESSIONALLY.

You will never get a quality installation with film you get from WalTart or Autozone/Pepboys, and you will never get a 100% contaminate free installation unless you tint in a clean garage that is free of dust.

Pay to have it done professionally and PAY FOR A WARRANTY.

You can't just buy professional film and attempt yourself either. You need to learn how to shrink the film correctly, and how to tuck it into the gasket properly.

To view the samples of the work we do, checkout our site. www.215motoring.com/gallery.html

I see all kinds of driveway tint that come into our shop, and guess what? WE CHARGE TO REMOVE IT.

Don't attempt it. Do some research on tint shops in your area.
