Clutch Adjustment

I just purchased a 94 Corolla and my clutch feels like it is activating very high. There is no play in the clutch at the top.

When looking under the car I can take a coder pin out and rotate the part of the cylinder back. I did that and moved it a few turns and took it for a test drive. The clutch still activated high.

Is there a way to adjust it?


The clutch was replaced at 100k miles and there is 119k on it now.

that is how I have been adjusting the height of my clutch friction point, I am surprise it did not work for you. Try again, maybe you did not turn enough or maybe you were not rotating the correct piece

Yea I will try adjusting it somemore. The pedal seems looser at the top though, which Im not sure if its helping or not. Ill give it another try and go from there..

I was told though that they can not be adjusted if they are hydrolic... wrong?

there are 2 adjustements you can make:

1- pedal freeplay which is the the pedal travel until it contacts the pushrod mechanism of the clutch. The manual says you should have about a quarter inch of freeplay.

2- pedal height which is the actual amount of pushrod in relation to the hydraulic master cylinder. This is the actual adjustment that controls the friction point.

Both adjustments are important and contribute to the overall feel of the pedal

It is hard to explain but once you get down there, take your time and you will see.
