Question Caliper Sliding Pins

Can't get the sliding pins back in the front passenger brake caliper. Tried lubing em up, using force to the point where I just ruined em. So I gotta go get new ones but I'm wondering if its supposed to be this hard to get the sliding pins back in the front calipers? How do I get them on or are they just too big? In 1993 Geo Prizm LSi

make sure you're going in completely straight and try twisting them as u push them in. it should not require tons of force to push them in.

Also, are both top and bottom sliding pins the same? Do they have different bore sizes and both have a little rubber stopping ring on the end? I have two that look the same and both have rubber rings, one of them fits in one whole, but the other doesn't fit in the other...

i dont remember if top and bottom pins are the same, i don't think they are. u might have mixed them up. whichever one slide in, that's the right one. u are using brake grease on those pins and not any other grease right?

Yes to only using brake grease. Do you think I need a different sliding pin for the other one then?

wouldn't hurt to try it out, im looking at my haynes manual now and the pins do look to be differnt. u can buy new pins cheap at advance auto parts.

I got this set at Advance haha...I like them but, I brought in both pins and asked if they had the right ones and they would have to order them and they're like $30 :/

should move easily, yours are seized. you'll need new boots also, may be better off just getting rebuilt calipers because the bores the slides go into may be corroded as well and hard to clean.

The only reason for them to NOT go in easily is they have rust on them. Wire brush the pins and then slide them in and out a few times WITH lube to work out the rust in the caliper pin bore. Re clean and reassemble with brake hardware lube or nev-r-seize. The pins should slide easily. I recently checked my brake pads and found two pins had moderately seized.
