i hear a whirling noise from my gearbox at all driving speeds although it shifts smoothly and very fine so is this the normal differential noise?

Do you mean the whining noise under deceleration in gear? That would be normal.

No problem. Yeah if that's all it is, thats fine. All manual gearboxes do that, even the 6-speed in my buddy's Impreza STI.

It's just the gears changing load off power.
