DX or LE Vin

I'm looking at buying a 1993 Corolla LE and the seller provided me with the VIN#. I did some research on the VIN and I'm getting some confusing information regarding characters 6 and 7, 2T1AE09E

As far as I know the forth to eighth characters refer too the engine type, etc. And are at the manufactures discretion. The 09 part is in question. From what I have found the 04 = base, and 09 = DX, and 00 = LE. But some sites say the sixth number is the series but do not explain. And the seventh number as restraint system, but the 9 is not on the list. The 1993 has manual belts with drivers side airbag only, and that is 2 on the list. My current ride is a base model and my vin has 04 in the sixth and seventh positions. You see why I am confused.

But after checking the full VIN here, http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/toyota.asp it is saying the model is DX or LE. So DX and LE North American owners. Is the LE 00 or does 09 refer to both DX and LE versions. Or is it just refering to the 7AFE 1.8L motor.

Also was A/C standard on the LE and DX?

7th Gen VIN# decoded

After a little more research a light bulb went of in my head, why not check my Chilton's manual. DoH!! So here is what I found for Canada/USA built 7th Gen Corollas

1st - 3rd Digits

1NX = 1 US built / 2 Toyota / 3 Passenger car
2T1 = 1 Canadian built / 2 Toyota / 3 Passenger car

4th Digit = Engine type
A = 4A-FE and 7A-FE

5 Digit = Line
E = Corolla

6th Digit = Model
0 = AE101L and AE102L

7th Digit = Series (Grade) or Trim Level
0 = LE
4 = STD or base
7 = DX
9 = DX

8th Digit = Body type & Restraint system
E = ?
B = 4 door Sedan with Manual belts and airbag

9th Digit = check digit
http://www.alton-moore.net/vin_calculation.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle...ication_Number

10th Digit = Model year
P = 1993
R = 1994
S = 1995
T = 1996
V = 1997

11 Digit = Plant of Manufacture
Z= Fremont (CA)
C = Canada

12th - 17th Digits = Actual serial number
000001 - 999999

Can anybody confirm this information for 7th Gen North American Corolla's?
Anybody that would like to add other regions. Maybe we could put together a good Wiki specificly for 7th gen Corolla's

Enter in your full VIN # @ toyodiy.com

It will decode it for you and tell you exactly what trim level it is.

EDIT: Also, do you have pics of the car? That would be the obvious way to tell what it is.
The 1993 LE has some standout differences differentiating itself from lower end Corollas.

That link wasn't exactly helpfull. It is telling me that it could be DX in the US and LE in Canada.

Market
N. America
Year
01/1993
Make
TOYOTA
Model
COROLLA
Frame
AE102

Additional codes
GRADE DX (U.S.A.) LE (CANADA, TAIWAN);08/1995- DX (U.S.A., CANADA) LE (TAIWAN) PRODUCT:NAP:NORTH AMERICA PRODUCT PARTS BODY:SED:SEDAN ENGINE:7AFE:1800CC 16-VALVE DOHC EFI

This car has the color-keyed mirrors, door handles and mudflaps like the LE has. Also has the LE badge on the left hand side of the trunk.But really, how hard is that to fake. I asked if the car had A/C, it wasn't mentioned in the ad, and the seller said it did not have it. From my research A/C is standard equipment on the LE.

Post or PM me a link to the ad showing photos and I will identify it for you.

EDIT: Too add to my post, the main obvious differences in a 93 LE are:

-red and orange center trunk garnish
-2-tone higher quality interior seat fabric
-front seats have more contoured shape, wider headrests and heavier side bolstering.

Air conditioning was optional on all Corollas produced and sold in Canada in 1993. Including the LE.

Thanks 96coroll. I tried, two days ago, using Toyota.ca website. I left an online automated email asking the question. So far no reply, what a surprise.. Today I called my local dealer and they only had access to vin info back to 2000 IIRC. They recommended I call Toyota Canada directly. Something I should have done from the start. So I called them and they confirmed the the vin was for an LE. So I guess the 9 is a DX in the USA and an LE in Canada. If that makes any sense.

Anybody here in the US have an LE?
What number do you have for the 7th digit?

Just curious to see.

Edit: Thanks Phat Royal. I guess we where typing at the same time. I am aware of those other differences as well. I have not seen this car in person yet and the ad only has exterior pics. And thanks for letting me know about the A/C. My info about that was from a US brochure.
