running out of ideas please help car not starting

Hi

I been posting here for the last few days and no one seems to know the answer. I have checked the timing belt and made sure the timing marks were correct. The crankshaft positioning sensor tested ok. I place a stethoscope on the fuel pump and I do not hear it functioning. I check the connector and there is no power when the key is switched to the on position. I check the main relay and efi relay and both are ok. Both relays are also getting power. So it seems its wiring itself.

Is this a problem I need to take the car to the dealer for? Its a 96 prizm with 221k miles. Is it worth it?

Disconnect the fuel pump's power connector and see if it's delivering power. If it is, replace the fuel pump.

its not delivering power at all. According to the haynes manual the battery voltage should appear for around 2 seconds when it it switched to on. I dont see the battery voltage at all even when i strip the power wire and test it from there. Im thinking its the wiring harness to the pump.

will the car run like before if I just bypass the connector and just have a switch with a direct connection to the battery?

so jumper power directly to the pump wire and see if the car runs then. trace backwards in the circuit to see where the power flow stops at.

does anybody know where I can get the wiring diagrams so I know where the wires run? this problem is really unusual. Im thinking of taking it to a toyota service bay just to check what really is the problem.

Figured you could just trace the wires under the car.

it looks like they run under the carpet. I want to know where in the ECU it connects to so I can test the wire from there

It looks to me like the power wire from the fuel pump goes straight into the relay:

i read the wiring diagram from the haynes manual and it looks like thats true. I just dont understand how that wire could have been compromised. Ill try to test the voltage at the relay tomorrow.

i checked both the efi relay and circuit opening relays and both are fine. I also checked the continuity of the wire from the circuit opening relay to the fuel pump and its ok. I found that only when your starting the car will the battery voltage show up at the fuel pump. That is not what the haynes manual says. So now its either the timing or the ignition system.

i also tried checking the crank positioning sensor and its reading 2600 ohms well within the range of what the haynes manual says.

I did screw around with the timing belt though. I checked my marks and they all look ok.

Question: when you guys do the timing belt do you set the crank pulley at exactly the zero mark of the timing cover? everywhere I look thats what it says.

Is there any specific procedure done when putting the timing belt on? What I did was turn the crank pulley to zero. take the crank bolt off. then make sure all timing marks are still aligned (crank and cam) then slip on the timing belt on. When I place the timing belt on all the marks are still lined up.

I got the car started today although it ran a little rough for a little while. It was the timing belt. I think this link has the most detailed timing belt install instructions. I think these instructions are the best for people who want to do their own t belts.

Does it mean though that if I got the car started that the timing is dead on? The car did run a little rough but then smoothed out. I have not run it for longer than 2 minutes because I did not install the water pump belt.
