Interior Lights

Recently I noticed that my hazard light switch had a burnt out bulb. And that got me to thinking. So here is the question, does the dimmer switch have a light in it?

I don't think there's a light IN the dimmer switch but I think there might be a light back there that makes a ring around the dimmer switch. Can't be too sure but IIRC it looks like that on my sister's 98.

Nope, no light in the dimmer switch, or at least there's not in my one. Speaking of lights, a couple of months ago I discovered that there's a light in the ashtray and also in the cigarette lighter socket. Mine were blown and I didn't even know they existed.

OK thanks. I didn't think there was. I guess I should check my ashtray and cig lighter too. Do you remember what type/size of bulb was in there Kiwi?

I'm not sure what type it is, but it's very small and looks very different to most bulbs. It was a 0.7w bulb if I remember correctly. It's a bit of a pain to remove too, as it pulls out from the socket, as opposed to being twisted out. Your fingers need to be really dry and free of oil or you'll be there all day (so definitely don't attempt to eat any salt and vinegar chips beforehand ). You'll see it by removing the lower section of the centre console on the dash. The bulb sits on top of the metal ashtray housing (the part the ashtray slides into). Your best bet might be to get one from a junkyard. Although I'd suggest grabbing a few as out of the 7 I got, only 3 of them worked.

I wouldn't really bother replacing the cigarette lighter socket bulb as it doesn't really seem to do anything. I looked around for ages and couldn't see anywhere where the light would actually come out. Not exactly sure what it's for as it certainly didn't light up the inside of the socket.

@ Kiwi - Sounds like a pain to get to. Those are two thing I never use any way. Might have a look one of these days.

@ speedy25 - The Sylvania bulb guide is not very specific for all the interior lights.

I ended up finding out the hazard/defogger bulb size in another thread here at TN. I'm replacing them with leds I found on eBay.

Just a correction to one of my previous posts - The bulb for the ashtray light is actually 1.4w. I had a look at the junkyard the other day.
