Are you referring to the optional OEM alarm system?

Hmm, do the doors unlock themselves when the key is in the 'LOCK' or 'ACC' position?

Definitely sounds like an OEM VIP RS3000 alarm is installed. Is there a small LED on the dash? Perhaps the old owner forgot to give you the key fob. The auto lock/unlock feature is enabled by default on that particular alarm system.

Try this:

1. Sit in the driver's seat with the driver's door open.

2. Insert the key into the ignition and switch it to the 'ON' position 5-times (on-lock, on-lock, on-lock, on-lock, on) within a 10-second period. The LED will turn on and the chirper will sound once.

*** You must perform the next step within 30-seconds ***

Close the driver's door once, then open and close it one more time. Turn the ignition switch to the 'LOCK' position. The chirper should sound twice, and the exterior lights should flash twice. The auto lock feature should now be disabled.

Give that a go and let me know how you get on

That's a shame. I don't know what else you could try sorry. Hopefully someone else will have an idea. If not, then fingers crossed that the dealer will know how to disable it. Best of luck.

Get down under the dash and look for a black box with wires and usually a fuse block that isnt part of the stock toyota box. Yank that fuse and see if it solves your troubles. Aftermarket alarms are a nuisance when they get older.
