Exhaust and Trans Questions

First the Exhaust question.

I have a terrible exhaust leak and I need to replace the flex pipe and have a stud extracted from the header. I was quoted $160 from a local exhaust shop. I was curious if any of you have experience with the ebay exhaust kits? Something like http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/93-97-94-95-96-Toyota-Corolla-1-8L-Black-Exhaust-Header-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3efc6b2570QQitemZ27052 2852720QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso ries This?

And my trans questions comes down to a couple things. My corolla has the 3 spd trans and around 40ish MPH the car seems to hunt between 2nd and 3rd gear. Sometimes it will ride smoothly in 3rd and other times it with shift back and forth between the two gears and I can feel load on the car as if it were in a high rev in second. Is this common with the 3 spd trans? Is mine about to take a shit? Can I swap a 4spd trans and trans computer in?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead!

There has been quite a lot of talk around here lately about the eBay header. Quite a lot of people use them on their Corollas. They're great value for money and don't crack like the original exhaust manifold, plus they look great and add a bit of performance too. I'd definitely recommend getting one. Just have a good browse on eBay though, as the prices vary quite a bit. Also, make sure that the oxygen flange is the same as what you currently have, as there are two different types - The 2-bolt flange type and the screw-in type. As long as you buy the header with the same mounting type for the sensor then you won't have any issues. Wish I could help you with your automatic transmission problem, but I've owned manuals all my life, so hopefully someone else will be able to help. Good luck!

oh ya i've seen plenty of people with that set up bought on ebay. They have commented that it's a nice fit. Problems have occurred where they order the wrong pipe for installation of their o2 sensor. to avoid this inspect to see if your o2 is a screw in or a 2 stud bolt on. The 1.6 (screw) or 1.8(stud) headers off ebay are interchangable.

I'll take a look later and see which type I have. Since I have the 3 spd trans I'm pretty sure I have the 1.6 4AFE. Is that for sure a sign of the of the different motors?

Thanks!

no not necessarily i got my car off my cousin and she had installed a new down pipe and it has a tread in o2 sensor. And i've got 96 1.8. According to ebay at least it seems to believe that all 1.8's have the two bolts. I just think that when she did the down pipe she replaced the o2 sensor. with the thread one.

I recently replaced mine with a Ebay one but it was a oem style lol. At least it did fix my problems. As far as the tranny goes when I first purchased my prizm the transmission was slipping badly. Someone suggested to go buy a tranny kit. It consists of a transmission filter and a gasket and also some lucas transmission stop slip. And about 4 quarts of tranny fluid *(im not 100% sure how much i really put in there, maybe someone can give you that answer). After I did that, my tranny has been butter smooth and that was 6 years ago. It doesnt hurt to try its the cheapest option right now.
