what year engine fits a 96

We need an engine for a 96 model corolla and I have a 2000 corolla block will it work in a 96? Or if we wanted a higher performance engine what could be installed?

They are different engines. First of all your 96 could have either the 1.6L 4AFE or the 1.8L 7AFE, but by 98 I think they all had the 1.8L 1ZZFE, by 2000 I know for sure they all had the 1ZZFE.

For performance, as a drop-in, you're looking at an imported 4AGE. Otherwise you need a 4AFE or 7AFE, from 95-97 preferably.

But 3SGE's aren't bolt-on correct?

IIRC, custom engine mounts have to be fabricated to fit.
