Check engine light help...

So on my way to school this morning, my damn check engine light came on. The car drove fine, no hesitation, it didn't seem like anything was wrong. When I did start it though, it lagged a little bit, you know like when your batteries going dead...I was wondering, would the check engine light go on if your battery was dieing? I don't have a code reader, and the parts stores don't read them anymore so until I get it into a shop (which I won't have time for till next weekend!) I'm shooting bullets in the dark. It's had the same costco battery since June 2007, think it's time for a change? I checked all my fluids and they're fine also. Again the car runs and drives fine, and I know it could be a variety of things, but if your check engine lights ever gone on, but the car drove absolutely fine, let me know what your diagnosis was, thanks guys.

Battery doesnt cause CEL's.

Yes your can can run well even with the light on, but the computer did sense something so you'll have to find out the code eventually.
