96 corolla power steering problem

MY gf was coming home from work, all the sudden the car was very difficult to turn and the check engine light came on. I only have beginner knowledge at best in mechanics, but i remember that meaning that there is something wrong with the power steering belt. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm correct, i kind of need to know how to replace the belt, I've read stuff online, but i don't know where all the parts they discuss are in the engine.

By admitting your lack of knowledge, take it somewhere to get it fixed.

Make sure you check the fluid first.

as suprawillis has said check the power steering fluid first if it is low and foams alot when the engine is running then the housing need to be changed or in my case i cleaned mine out with purple blaster and a pressure hose on mild and it was cleaned and work bueatifully if you happen to be smelling powersteering fluid and you see evidence of leaking beneath the car check the steering rack, if it was the powersteering belt in most cases the teeth or fluts that contact with the pully will have alot of cracks on them and will probaly make a screechy noise everytime you move from a stationary spot or everytime you start your engine.
