I got this engine squealing....

I got this engine squealing everytime I start the engine cold but as the car gets warmer, it stops. To me, I'm thinking its a water pump bearing but not sure as I just got that replace in March or so along with a new t-belt. It's a '95 Geo Prizm with a 1.8L and its my DD/Winter car.

This is a video I found on youtube and it shows the same engine squealing as the one I have at cold start up:

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

I thought the same thing on my car. It is really a rusty power steering pulley.

So your's a rusty pwr str pulley that caused that squealing?

I used a stethoscope to pin point the problem at the pwr str pump, water pump, and othe various place around that accessory belt area but didn't hear much. Then I had a classmate listened to the noise with a stethoscope and he said its not the water pump. He said its a loose Alt Belt. Because when he turned the alt belt 90 degree, he's able to to turn it almost 180 which means its a bit loose. So I'll see if it goes away after tightening that up.

Well, has it had the belts serviced? Clearly it's a belt problem, whether it's the fault of a bad or rusty pulley you'll have to see when you get in there and give everything a good look. Remove the belts and inspect all pulleys, give them a nice cleaning with a wirebrush or some high grit sandpaper, and replace any belts that don't look OK.

Go to autozone, buy a can of belt dressing. Spray on your power steering belt. If the squealing goes away, time for a new belt.

I checked all accessory by using brake cleaner and dialectric grease on the belts and there's no change, so it was the water pump bearing after I rechecked it with a stethoscope. Its a defect part and I just replaced it in March or April of this year.

It was the water pump. I replaced it in class and now its all good. The old pump bearing felt rough and I can't believe I have it not even a year and its already bad. Freaking aftermarket pumps.

i had the same problem before. check the timing belt tensioner pulley. I had my timing belt snap because the pulley was no longer rolling. But its okay since the engine is non-interference

I thought it was the water pump but when I checked all components it was a rusty PS pulley causing the squeak.
