USA Smells like gas!

When I start my Corolla up in the mornings or when the engine is cold, the exhaust smells like gasoline a lot. What can be causing it?

Could be a oxygen sensor. My car smells like gas too. Ive replaced the o2 sensor but still smells like gas. Did a tune up and same thing. So i gave up, it doesn't smell horrible like other cars ive seen but its noticeable

Have you checked the FPR, fuel lines, injector rings? Leaky injectors maybe?

Smells like gas typically means it's running rich. If it isn't a leak, you have a few possibilities. How does it idle? A very dirty air filter could prevent it from getting enough air to fully burn off the full, as could a faulty O2 sensor. I would also try some carb cleaner in the idle air valve.

Charcoal canister?

I thought I remember reading in my Haynes manual, that the culprit could be the charcoal canister. Get a 2nd opinion on this before you act. I will grab my manual out of my car and see.

Update:

My Haynes manual, in the Troubleshooting section says

23: Fuel leakage and/or odor.
1. Leaking fuel feed line or return line (Chaps 1, 4)
2. Tank overfilled.
3. Evaporative canister filter clogged (Chap 1, 6)
4. Problem with fuel injection system.

Sorry I'm not much help. I just remember reading that when I was troubleshooting something else...

Dont overlook that rust and age is devastating on the fuel lines on our cars. Check the whole length of the fuel lines to make sure there are no leaks. A leak you can smell isnt a small one, and it wont fix itself!

you need to make sure you don't have a gas leak, typically I've found if it is a strong smell of gas, there is a leak...and a clogged charcoal canister can actually burst a seam in the tank, causing a leak. Another common issue. Check for leaks!
