Cheap new muffler?

Hey I've been searching for a new muffler for my 1994 corolla (base model). The cheapest one I could find was on rockauto.com for around $60 shipped. Do you think I should go with that or can I find another elsewhere for less. Not trying to get loud sound or anything my muffler just broke so I need to replace it. Thanks

I would look for a used Magnaflow muffler or something else. I am sure if you go to a muffler shop they can sell you something basic and cheap.

Auto Zone sells a replacement muffler for your car for under $80. Mail Order may be cheaper but you might pay shipping costs.

$60 sounds typical. Muffler and exhaust prices skyrocketed a few years back, and I know of no reason for it to happen.

I just went with the $60 muffler. I found cheaper universal ones, but seems like those need to be welded on.

Swapped it on yet? I was thinking of saving some bucks and doing my muffler myself since I don't plan on getting a higher end muffler anymore but am afraid the bolts and brackets are so badly rusted they may be seized/stuck.

I didnt receive it yet, but I am going to give it a shot once I receive it. I have the same problem with rusty bolts. I'll try some WD-40 on it today and see if it loosens up any.

Thanks, you saved me some time/trouble. Also, my resonator is pretty rusted and cracked slightly. Do you guys know if the resonator is a bolt on or a weld-on part?

It's part of the downpipe.

Sorry, I meant to say downpipe. I took a quick look at it and looks like it needs to be welded on.

The downpipe should bolt on to the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. Of course that depends on whether or not someone has done exhaust work before.
