Since you're from the Philippines and your Corolla is a GLi model, you won't have an EGR system as it's a Japanese model. The Japanese models had different emissions standards than the US models. On the US models, the EGR valve is located near the throttle body.

Here's a diagram that I just scanned from my Haynes manual:

AHA! My apologies for not catching the fact that you are not from the States. If you do not have a US car, there may not be an EGR valve. Sorry about that.

Also on the EGR VACUMM MODULATOR, theres a cap which has a filter under it. Make sure you clean it.
My wagon just threw out a code 71 but i dont have time to fix it, im just going to the junkyard to grab an EGR valve, sensor, and modulator.

No worries . As for the Check Engine Light, is it remaining solid when you turn the ignition to the 'ON' position? Or is it illuminating for a second and then turning off, like normal? The light should start flashing if your connection between the TE1 and E1 ports is secure. Even if no fault is detected it should still flash continuously with no pauses in between. Be sure to check that your connections are secure, as sometimes the grease inside the ports can cause poor contact. Don't remove any of the grease, but wiggle the paper clip around a bit. It might pay to have someone else help you while you sit inside the car and wait to see if the CEL starts flashing.

hmm filter in the EGR VM there's a filter? Does the Haynes have cleaning procedures for that? Our 96 OBDII recently threw a code for the EGR, and I had the guy at the parts store clear it with his scanner, and it hasn't come back since. Wonder if I just need to clean that filter.
