oil pump

i noticed recently that the oil pressure indicator in the dash takes a longer time to go off after starting the engine could that be an oil pump failure and if not what could the problem be?

it could be a weak oil pump, a dirty/failing sender (gunk in the hole where it reads pressure), or a worn engine (loose bearings need more pressure).

replace the sensor FIRST. They do wear out and go bad. After that get a real gauge and confirm your pressure is OK or bad. MINIMUM psi is 5 per 1000 rpms. Also if you are using a cheap oil filter (typically brand "F") you can have pressure problems.

Sounds to me like a your engines just getting a little old.

So long as you keep an eye on the oil level and the oil pressure light turns out within a few secs, you've got nothing to worry about.
