Rough going

Hey Guys

For the last few months now my 95 7afe has been starting a little rough. Right when I turn the key to start, it catches almost immediately and begins to run. Sounds good, but it actually makes for a rough start cuz when it catches its only at about 300/400rpm so it struggles to get up to idle. I'm not sure if this is a timing issue or maybe the starter doesnt have enough juice to spin it up to the right rpm.

The starter got replaced this summer but it was with a used jobber part and I think it was doing it intermittenly before my old starter went anyways. The car does idle a bit rough but that set in more noticable after I ditched it (hehehe bent the subframe pretty good, but other than that she took it like a champ, thank god for parts cars), so im not sure if there related.

You could try replacing tune up parts such as plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap, clean intake/EGR system and run some fuel injector cleaner.

yes, gauge is from sender, sensor is for the computer to meter air/fuel according to engine temp and figure idle speed. not uncommon for them to go bad when cold and work fine when warmed up, only giving a low rough idle when cold.

Mine has been doing it now only because of the drop in temps. It kinda cough starts in the morning but idles at 1300 or so and is back to around 8-900 once warmed up

thats a false economy. Think about it. your sensor is probably failed and you're going to put on another one that may be bad with the same age on it?

Sensors are fairly cheap. Just buy a new one, or at least do the research to find out if yours is feeding the electronics the right information.

Well i'm in my last year of college and im almost at 400,000kms (I know that low for a Corolla but the way I drive it, shes getting a little rough around the edges) so i'm going be ready to upgrade. I would rather live with the problem than buy a new sensor, but since I had a spare I thought i'd try it out, its only a 5 min job.

Unfortunately the replacement sensor (which was a shiny brass colour and looked in great shape compared to the one I pulled out of my car which was dull and had alot of white deposits) didnt entirely fix the problem, it does seem to be better but it still struggles a bit to get up to 1200-1300rpm on starting. I have only tried its a few times, I dont know if maybe the ECU takes soon time to recognize it or something.
