eBay short shifter

I have a 95 Prizm/Corolla. Are the generic eBay short shifter kits actually short-throw shifters ore are they simply shorter shafts?
For anyone who has actually used one, what did you think?
I'm not trying to build a racing machine; I just want my beater to shift less like a dump truck.

A fake short throw shifter just has a shorter stick, this one looks like it has all the equipment to actually shorten the shift throw.

Short shifters change the pivot point so you move the top of the shifter arm less. Keep in mind though that you have to increase the effort to make that shift because of the change.

I only got the short stick and I like it... love the notchy and metallic noise when changing gears.
