Auto trans. help please

Hi,

I have a 96 corolla DX with the 1.6L 3-speed trans. ~217, 500 km

About 2 weeks ago I have experienced transmission slippage between 1 and 2 (november 27ish). I found that it only slips 1 or 2 times when started in cold weather.

So last Thursday I took it into the dealers to check it out and told me the fluid looks fine but getting soon to replace (according to color and service record) and they test drove it and said it was fine, but i told them it only happens when engine is cold. They recommended me to change/flush the trans fluid, so i agreed since it was close to be done anyways and there was no harm doing it early.

So today after driving around doing my christmas shopping since i had a day off. When getting to the car an hour ago, I start the car like normal, then a press down the brakes and tried shifting gears and the button doesn't depress so i can't shift. So I open the hood and check the trans fluids, looks new as i had it done last thursday. So i turned off the car and try restarting, the button finally worked.

I have not yet to try again, So i was wondering what causes my transmission to not allow me to press the release button to change gears?

thanks,
chris

Thats an easy one. The solenoid for the gear release is powered by the brake lights. You have probably blown a fuse on the brake lights.
