+1

I was at Pick-A-Part today and there was a Levin BZ-G there which had been in a frontal. It had a factory 4A-GE 20v Blacktop that had only done 105,000km (65,000 miles). Completely stock, looked mint (the rest of the car was unmodified too). It had an automatic transmission so probably wouldn't have been thrashed as much as a 5-speed version. The cost of the complete engine is $337 NZD ($250 USD). If only I had the cash at this time of the year.....

$1600 for a Blacktop mated with a rare 6 speed sounds about right.

You can find Blacktop or Silvertops with 5 speeds for about $800 or less. Lucky me, I bought my silvertop from a local guy for $400, I had to take it out his car. Then, recently just bought a 6spd from a buddy @ $350.... $750, silvertop with 6spd...

The only reason why these motors, or any other, costs in the US is just fro import/shipping costs. If Toyota had imported the motors in the first place, we wouldn't be paying out the ass.... maybe.

Toyota didnt bring any 4age powered ae101 or ae111 corollas into nz either, all our 4age's are out of cars imported by dealers etc.

If the US is anything like Australia, they have to support/protect their local manufacturers so imported vehicles get majorly shafted pricewise.
