Canada shaking at 90 klicks

Hi there,

I just purchased a 1995 toyota corolla dx. There was a grinding noise when I put the brakes on so I figured it needed new rotars. It did need new rotars, the brake pads were pretty new. That stopped the grinding noise, and the brakes are good. When I get up to about 90 kph, the steering shakes, and it shakes quite abit. There is some noise coming from the front end also...anyone have any ideas?..do I need bearings?, or would the axel be bad?...thanks

Does the steering wander when you hit a bump/dip? My 96 corolla had a clunking issue. The inner cv joint was the problem on mine. It would click whenever i would accellerate and decellerate.

Jack up the front 1 tire at a time, move the tire up and down with hands on bottom and top, then grab the left and right side of the tire and shake it left and right. If there seems to be alot of play with out much effort, you need new parts. left and right only means tie rod, up and down means ball joint. More than likely though you hit a pothole and either messed up your alignment, put a dent in your rim or both to cause the shaky wheel. Get your front tires rebalanced if the front end seems tight, if not you'll need an alignment.

I am pretty sure it needs struts, but doesn't seem to wander. It may be a bent rim, would it shake like that only at 90 clicks, not at all speeds>?

if your steering wheel shakes when you go fast then its probably the outer tie rods. if the steering wheel doesnt shake then it could be the wheel bearings. To check the wheel bearings the thing that works for me is to remove the front tire and brake rotor. If there is any roughness with withe the spinning of the hub replace the wheel bearing.

I've had shaking at high speeds go away from doing one of two things or both:

Replacing the front tires
Getting an alignment

As for the noise, without knowing exactly what kind of noise (humming, squeeling, clicking, etc) it's hard to diagnose for other problems.

The noise is more like a humming noise
