Speaker size

1996 Corolla DX

What size are the front and rear speakers? Are they hard to remove/install?

The USDM Corollas have 4" front speakers. The rear speakers are either 5.25" or 6". If they're 6" speakers then they'll sit on each corner of the rear deck (closest to the pillars), and if they're 5.25" speakers then they'll sit near the middle of the rear deck. They're very easy to remove and install. Simply remove the front door cards to gain access to the front speakers, and slide the rear deck out to gain access to the rear speakers. The whole procedure is straight forward.

Merry Christmas!

US Corollas have 6.5" Speakers in the rear. Fronts are 4" IIRC. I went with 3.5" though out of concern for mounting depth and the fact I forget it was 4" They still worked out nice though. I have Kenwood excelon 6.5" speakers in the rear and Infinity Reference up front that sound very very nice together.

Mine has the crappy 4" and 6.5" speakers I bought but when I add a 500watt RMS subwoofer they'll only need to put out highs and mids so it's all good

I had a friend of mine take a dremel to the deck of my Golf so we could put 6x9s on it. Custom work is custom work. If you absolutely must put 6x9s on the rear of your car, I say just start cutting that metal to size.

You don't need to cut anything, you need to make custom mounts.

Well you did cut the deck lid no?

Nice setup though, but I wouldn't want my speakers centered like that. Only because of the look to be honest.

If it wasn't for the fact that I tried installing an amp and sub and have all the wiring ready to go I would probably settle for running a couple of strong 6x9s, but I have decent speakers all around that will provide loud highs for when I drop in the sub.

As an audiophile, I am suffering miserably with my setup. But it's better than when it had blown speakers all around and factory tape deck.

No, I cut no sheet metal. The deck cover, yes and that's easily reversed with some fabric and particle board.

Bought a Directed 250d amplifier (thing is 10 years old, Directed now makes Orion car audio products) along with an old 12" Memphis 250W RMS subwoofer in a ported box, whole package for $80. It's amazing. Moved it from the ported box to the sealed box just for testing, but going back to the ported box so it will hit the lows even harder.

Here it is, sounds clean in the cabin with no distortion in the highs, but cheap phone cam doesn't let you get that effect (it definitely gives you the effect of the sub though):

250 Watts RMS rocks my world.
