Headlights wont turn off after jumpstart

So, I was an idiot today and jumpstarted my dead battery while my headlights were on. Now they will not turn off. Anyone know what exactly would cause this problem. Im guessing its some type of switch problem. Thanks

I'm not too clued up when it comes to auto electrical work, but it sounds like you could have a problem with your combination switch (the switch by the steering wheel that turns the lights on). You should be able to test it with a digital multimeter. Either that or there's a problem with the headlight relay.

I have a couple of headlight wiring diagrams here if you need them. Just send me a private message with your email address and I'll send them through. In the meantime, if you don't plan on driving at night, then you can remove the headlight fuses in the engine bay fusebox to get them to turn off. I can provide a photo of the fuse locations for that too if you need it. Good luck!

Hey Kiwi, I actually tried removing the fuses labeled for the headlights but only one of my headlights turned off after that. Is it safe to assume that my fusebox may be incorrectly wired because I assumed removing the fuse would turn it off.

or were the headlights on the reason the battery went dead?

Did you already disconnect your battery and let it sit for a while?

I don't have anything to test the relay or switch as of yet. Haven't been able to jump start the car as of yet. My roommates are out of town but I should be able to get it started again today. I pulled my headlight relay and noticed a lot of residue on the metal contacts, I could take a pic later but would this be a signal that the headlight relay is no good?

I've seen relays stay powered via the corrosion conducting just enough current to bridge the terminals. may way to check the back side of the fuse box.

If I remove the relay and the lights are still on does that mean that the relay is working fine?

if you remove the relay and the lights are still on then either you removed the wrong relay or there is a short somewhere in the system applying power directly to the headlights.

And I go back to my original question, still unanswered: Did you already disconnect your battery and let it sit for a while?

No, I have not tried that but the battery died after I jump started it the first time and after starting it again the same problem is there. I pulled all the fuses while the car was off and one of my headlights shut off but the other stays lit! Then after pulling a 30A fuse marked AM2 my right blinker finally shut off, but I still have not found a way to disable the lights without plugging out the battery. Also my right turn signal works fine if i pull the AM2 fuse. What do you think?

I want to try to get another headlight switch from the junkyard today. Can anyone give me some tips on how to get it out of the steering wheel?
