Using 5w20 fine?

Hi,

I was wondering if using 5w20 fine?

The car has been using 5w30

The reason I am asking is because my parents bought motor oil that was on sale at wal-mart and they picked up a few 4.73L bottle of 5w20 for $10.00 each but they threw out the receipt, so we are not able to exchange or return. So not to waste good oil, is it okay to temporary switch oil grade for 3 oil change?

should be fine in winter, would be wary of using 5w-20 in the hot summer though...though how hot does it get there? not like 100F all the time, you'll be fine.

it will be fine or you can always sell it to someone who uses 5w-20 grade oil.

Might be a bit more likely to leak past some seals as the 20 weight is thinner than the 30 weight at operating temperature. But one OCI of that shouldn't be too bad. I wouldn't run 20 weight for a prolonged period in an engine designed for 30 weight, though.
