Speedometer Problems

The speedometer on my 1994 Corolla is behaves in an erratic manner. Can anyone tell me the cause of this problem? Can anyone give me some information on how I can correct this problem?

Define erratic. There is no check engine light, right? A CEL would mean a fault cluster or speed sensor. To get at the cluster: First thing is to make sure the needle is on well. Simply remove the two screws holding the black bezel in (they're on top of it), and pull it out (lower the steering wheel if you can). From there, remove the four screws holding in the cluster, and pull it out a little bit. Remove the three wire bundles from the back of the cluster and gently pop the clear plastic off (the clips can break if you aren't careful). Press down on the needle to make sure it is on well. If that fixes it, take a GPS with you to make sure it's still calibrated.

If that doesn't work, I would then try a new cluster/speedometer. They run $40-60 for the cluster. Hopefully that helps and fixes it!
