Man these cars sound mean with open header.

1.8 does anyway. I ran my 1.6L Sentra open header for a while and it didn't sound this loud or nasty.

Well...

I wouldn't have normally, but the first post was so laughable... I figured this was anything but serious.

So you're saying you don't think it sounds mean.

Cool.

Thx.

OK. Back on topic. The engine in the original video sounds like a lawnmower. I've heard a LOT of four cylinder engines that sounded fantastic... that's just not one of them.

Is that better?

It sounds a lot deeper in person. More like a chopper than a lawnmower. It's reproduced pretty well on my system but I have the Creative system-wide EQ set to boost bass quite a bit and a subwoofer with my computer speakers. So the bass probably comes across better for me than it does for you guys, but it's still lacking due to the phone cam.

Open header? You mean with no exhaust or no header? Not only does it not sound good, but a header is essential for the engine to run correctly. Without one, the head alone is not likely to be able to efficiently channel exhaust gases away and clear.

With just no exhaust piping... will, you still need a resonator on these cars, and some piping.

Be careful, sitting at a stop there is nothing directing the exhaust away from the fresh air intake at the base of the cowl.

Actually I guess you could say it's open downpipe as opposed to open header, depending on which way you see it.

I'm not running it this way anyway, fixed the cat today and the exhaust system is getting bolted back on tomorrow.

I was randomly browsing through Corolla videos on YouTube today and came across this video of a 4A-FE Corolla with an open header. It immediately reminded me of this thread, so figured I'd post it in here:
