losing RPM while driving !!!

hi ppl i have a 93 corolla and i have ran into a problem one day i was driving and i stopped to get food and the car did not want to turn back on so i had a friend come look at it and he told me that the car was not giving spark so i needed a distributor so i replaced the distributor and the ignition fuse and the car ran fine and worked for two days and blew out the distributor but not the fuse ......so i took it to a certified mechanic and he had it for a week and told me that it was the ecm (computer) which i went to the junk yard and made sure i got the right computer that matched up exactly with the old one and he put that in and i drove it to my place and the car shut off as soon as i parked...... but it started right back up and i took it back to him telling him it was not working properly so he kept it for another two weeks and said it that the sensor in the new distributor that i put in it was bad and he replaced the distributor with another one so now when i drive the car every once and awhile the car looses power and the check engine light comes on and then the car goes back to normal....... i have no clue wat the hell is wrong with it i have done everything that i know and the mechanics know and i still cant fix it if anyone might have a slight clue on wat to do please help me thanks

What code do you get when the check engine light comes on? Yours being a '93 has OBD1 computer. You can pull the code(s) without a scanner. The procedure has been described on the forum multiple times.

That's no good. My cat didn't really show signs of being bad aside from the ride having been boggy since I got the car a year ago. Finally the car gave out all at once from driving with it so clogged, and what's worse is there is damage done to the valve train. If you suspect you have a bad cat do whatever you can, unbolt it and hollow it out as a temporary fix if you must, but do something before it causes possible damage to your engine.

Continuous flashing means there is no code stored in the memory. If the battery was disconnected after you got the CEL for the first time (as stated in your first post), the code would be erased.

I thought that it possibly could have been the crank position sensor. I hoped to get that confirmed by a relevant error code.

i have a friend looking at it and he said that it could either be the crank postion sensor or the map sensor i am gonna replace both of them to see what happens is it possible to have a 93 corolla with a 96 engine because he said the 96 engines have the crank position sensor and the 93 corollas dont have that sensor so therefore it is giving error to the engine but ever since the 96 engine was in the car drove fine for 1yr and a half im confused

Are you saying that the car had a newer engine put into it? I would assume that such a transplant requires all of the wiring, sensors and ECU to be swapped as well.

Would you be running a '96 engine off of a '93 ECU?
