Front End problems 93 Corolla

Hi fellows,

ok this is what i have this morning i was driving home from work and notice a burning smell coming from by left front wheel. Put the car into my garage and remove the wheel. I think the smell was coming from by brake caliper. My brake pad are still good. Also when i got under the car to inspect i also notice my left front axles was not in all way in.

1 could it be the caliper causing the burnig smell?
2 which is the front axles that drives ?
3 Are both axles suppose to turn at the sametime ?

any help would be good

Was the caliper or rotor hot?

no it was not hot, i guess i probably hit a big pot hot cause the axles to come out of the differental. maybe i will look at in again
