'96 Geo Prizm Questions

AS I posted last week, I just purchased a 96 Prizm. I have a couple more questions about the car.

Last Friday, I tried to start the car and could not get the key to turn from the Lock position. Based on Info from here,, I replaced the key lock cylinder. Simple fix that worked, but I noticed the steering wheel lock isn't working. I'm not sure if it was working before I changed the cylinder.

Other than anti-theft protection, can this cause any other problems?(like suddenly locking up when I'm driving) Just a bad thought I had today.

Also, I'm confused about the Diagonstics on the car. Under the Dash there is a plug in for the reader, but there is also a connection under the hood(near the right strut)that says "Diagnostics" on the cover. What is that for?

Thanks for your help

i dont know anything about your key issue, but, as for the connector under the dash, thats your standard obdII connector and the one under the hood was for the dealer scan tool. it gives further information about how your car is performing vs using the obdII connector under the dash. it was there to make the technicians in the dealerships job a little easier. hope that helps a little.
