Trans Cooling Line
I recently got a 93 Corolla LE, been fixing alot of random stuff wrong with it as is sat for a few years before I took it on. My most recent problem has been losing trans fluid, eventually I figured out it's leaking from the Pressure side of the cooling hose.
It goes Trans>Pipe>Hose>Radiator, the entire bottom of the pipe section is totally rotted out and rusting, I am assuming this is largely the problem. I tried to put a new hose clamp on and /at best/ it slowed the leaking slightly.
So my potential fix and question of how good of an idea it is, I plan to cut the pipe with a pipe cutter around where the clamp is holding the pressure and return pipes together (maybe 4-5 inches up the pipe), then get a new section of hose and use a hose clamp up there and replacing the old hose all the way to the radiator. More or less shortening the pipe section by a handful of inches and lengthening the hose section by the same.
So the questions are is there any reason I shouldn't do this? anyone tried this and have any tips on getting this to work well (my main concern is the ridge used to help keep the hose on, but i was thinking I may be able to flare the pipe out a little)? and lastly I am 90% sure that the hose is 1/4" ID but I assume this based of measurements on a very corroded pipe, does anyone randomly offhand know the actual ID of the hose?
With hope I was clear on what I was trying to say..
