Dragging brake? Jack up each wheel and see if they turn freely. That is where I would start.

I'm sort of in the same boat. My mom's corolla gets about 200 miles to the tank. I change the oil over 3k miles, air filter is clean, spark plugs are still fine, wires/ cap is new. I just serviced it today and replaced the stuck open thermostat. Hopefully that will help.

Bad thermostat will definitely make a difference in mileage.

Start with a leakdown test on your engine to see if the internals are good enough to warrant good maintenance to bring your mileage up.
