Distributor Cap Quality?

I'm looking to replace my distributor cap, but I've been seeing some variation in price.

I was wondering if anyone had any insight of what to pick or at least what to completely avoid.

I see some sell with the rotor too and was thinking perhaps I should replace that as well.

I don't really mind anything too performance intensive. Just something that will work and won't fail when it's raining or when it's really humid outside!

Thanks in advance!

My rule is: You get no more than you pay for - You may get less, but you won't get more.

So get the best you can afford and move on. I bought a medium-priced disty and rotor from NAPA a couple years ago and don't have any problems.

IMO, replace both at the same time.

agreed, I don't see it being a big deal really. I have used aftermarket and never had a problem

It takes some looking to separate the good from the bad. Almost all caps have aluminum contacts because they are cheap. If anyone finds brass contacts for Toyota let me know. They ARE available for the old V8 cars but I havent found them for any modern vehicles. SO far the best quality easily gotten was from NAPA.

i recently got a BWD distributor cap from advance auto for $32. very good quality, the rotor i got from the dealer for $10 and the contact metal was brass. its very high quality. the rotors advance were selling looked VERY cheaply made.

i too have a bwd cap and i also have a bwd rotor button. the rotor button has a brass contact. i got them at advance and both have been great. i havnt had any issues with them since i installed them last june. the only ignition issues ive had with my car were with those E3 spark plugs. they warped after about four months and my car skipped like crazy.
