gen 7 DIY Power Locks Conversion Corolla 93 - 97

This is brief tutorial on how to convert front manual door to power locks. The simple tutorial below shows few picture of the install. Everyone is welcome to add to tutorial to make it better. I haven't seen anyone do this yet so trying to contribute. This is brief example that power lock conversion can be done, I am not responsible for anything if anyone tries to attempt this. Conversion for front doors only took about 4 hours.

Tools Needed:
-Power Lock Kit
-16 Gauge Wiring
-Soldering Iron / Solder
-Shrink tubing/ Electrical tape
-Basic tools to take of door panel and center console to run wiring

Kit that I got from eBay






FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR

1. I’m going to start with driver’s side door because it is the difficult one.

You can reference how to take of door panels below thanks to these people.

2. I decided to also put in some raamat that I had left over.





3. Wiring that came with the kit was a mess so I rewired the whole thing. I began by just cutting of the master cylinder and soldering all the connections and extending the wires so they will reach to the inside of cabin. Purpose for that was to make it as much water tight as I can.





4. Prepare the door by cutting out the hole for the latch to hook onto the door lock. Below picture shows also the placement of where the cylinder goes.







5. After everything is mounted run the wires into the cabin and hook everything up to the module.












PASSENGERS SIDE DOOR

1. Same concept as the driver’s side door.











Powering the System +12V
1. This kit needs constant 12 volt power source. Battery seemed to be the easiest place to get that from. Just ran wire directly to the battery and enclosed it in the white tubing.

good write up. Didn't think it would be so cheap to buy the parts. Confusing how to hook up the actual lock to the piston thing.

Good writeup, I'm curious if this kit has held up for you. I installed the same ebay kit in my car last year and it was completely unreliable. My main issue was that the fittings with the screws that connect the rods together kept coming loose. I tried locktite, superglue, etc... I even had one break when I tried to tighten the screws down. Needless to say, I got sick of pulling my door panels off every other week to fix it and went back to manual locks.

Omg so hard to put but worth it! Had to pay friend 50$ to cut and mount but worth it! No more bending over to oen car passenger door! Lol

I had this kit for little under a year. It has been working great. I know some of my pictures aren't really clear but I don't think there is a right way to do this mod lol. I just kinda played around with solenoid until there wasn't a lot of resistance on it when I tried to open or close the door lock. I didn't do anything special to attached the solenoid rod to the door lock. Just used the screws that came with it to attach it. I also oiled all the moving components...If you guys want I can make a quick walk through video...

I'm glad it's working out for you. Maybe my mounting angles were putting to much stress on the connection... I might revisit this project again later but I'm kind of leaning towards just replacing my car with one that came with all the power options Have you done the rears yet? I'm not sure about your car but on mine I had to drill the holes in the doors to run the wires as there was no provision for them. I picked up the factory rear door grommets from the pick and pull so it all looked OEM.

Back installment was way easier than front. No cutting needed for back wonder if we can wire it so when we press unlock the front turn signals flash as well..

Nvm I got it eired so my front lights blink now I'm extremely happy lmao.

Up date
Nvm. When I turn on turn signals the fuse blew.
Any ideads to make this work?

Unlock doors plus LIGHTS
so i connected LED lights so when i unlock door it lights as well
(i tried connecting to signals but than fuse burnt when turning on the signals)

Just wanted to add that I did the install by drilling several holes. Some I used to look through so I drilled bigger holes for sight. I drilled two holes to mount the actuator, and then two holes to tighten the screws on the clamp.

I mounted the actuator at the same location near the bottom of the door because I was afraid of the window touching the rod if I rolled the windows down. There was also a stupid black cover on the whole door locking mechanism so only the most bottom or most top part can be clamped. The rest has a thick black cover. Instead of clamping up higher like the instructions show, I just clamped right next to the actuator mounting area near the end of the locking mechanism.

Finding out where to drill to mount the actuator is a pain, you'll have to drill several holes to get a good look unless you just get lucky. Either way, you end up with several holes, but I just wanted to add that you can do this mod if all you have is a drill. A cutting tool isn't necessary.

And for God's sake, be careful with the drill. You DON'T want to go through the door to the other side. Don't hit your window either, wherever you decide to mount the actuator. BE CAREFUL.
