gen 7 Starter Issue - Spinning

Hey guys, having a curious problem with the 'rolla ('97 CE 1.6)... Periodically (Three times over the last six months) when I go to start the car, the starter just continues to spin after the engine is running. Usually if I turn off the car and wait a few minutes it starts up properly. This morning, however, it continued to crank at a feverish pace even after I shut off the car, and I had to remove the battery connector cable... It never fails to start or is difficult to start, though, which makes me believe that the starter or solenoid itself may still be good. Any thoughts as to what the issue might be, if it's not the starter itself? (And feel free to tell me I'm a dummy and that it IS the starter. lol)

More than likely worn copper contacts in switchbox on the starter. Have a look at this thread:

That thought had crossed my mind, too, but (on further review) the contacts look fine, and it's never hesitated to start or not started on me at all...
