Sup guys, so i ran into this issue a few days back. Now my reverse gear does not always click into gear when I am reversing sometimes. This happened a few days ago so what i do is take it back to nuetral and try to put it in reverse. I did this on several occasions, got kinda mad and yanked it hard in there lol. Well it went into reverse alright but now i have some issues goin on with 2nd, 4th and reverse gears. They feel very mushy, like they dont have that crisp gear change in them anymore. It does it now once in a while but things kinda got worse today when second gear doesnt even wanna engage!! 4th and reverse are fine. 1st, 3rd and 5th have no issues and have that crisp gear change. What do you think has happened with the lower gears?
you can get solid or semi solid aftermarket ones for fairly cheap, and I don't think they're too hard to install. But you need to use your EYES and look to see whats wrong first.

Im bumping this thread after a few months btu I had someone look at this issue and it looks like the bushings have probbaly gone bad. Can you help me out on where I could can source them from?
Toyota dealer, very cheap. basically the cable ends have rubber grommits where they hook up to the shift slector on the tranny side. They are inexpensive. The brass solid bushings mentioned are aftermarket. I got mine from Speedsource. Don't know much more info on how to get em. I bought mine a few years ago. But stock is well enough.

would you have a diagram or picture of these and where exactly they are located? Also a part number would be helpful. Here in Canada, GM doesnt carry them anymore and I just wanna be sure if the toyota ones will work cause not everything is 100% compatible but thats with external stuff, i think the main parts probbaly are but i kinda wanna see a pic of this and its location to be sure

Sure, first off let me just add the engine and drivetrain on the Prizm is the same as the Corolla. GM doesn't have them since they went bankrupt
This was part of the instructions I had when they came in.> I will try to find the rest of the info on them. I had an email address somewhere
I have some bad news. The other day I was driving and downshifted to 3rd and I noticed the shifter went in deeper than it usually does. I didnt pay too much attention to it until I was about to put it in neutral. The shifter swung back as if its disconnected from anything at all and not only that, the tranny is stuck in 3rd gear!! The shifter can be thrown back and forth between 3rd and 4th gear without any consequences. Its almost like those toy car rides they have for the kids to play on where they can do whatever the heck they want, meaning theres so much freeplay, it doesnt even feel like a shifter anymore. The wierd thing is it will only go back and forth, thats it, it doesnt go into any other gear as in it doesnt travel sideways at all, and its stuck in 3rd. So i limped it to my mechanic, burning the clutch to death since i only had 3rd from a stop. My mechanic looked took apart the shift console to look underneath and see what was going on in there and he says, everything looks good, bushings, linkage and what not so it has to be internal. Now im debating whether to shell out $$$ on getting it rebuilt or do nothing. The car was flawless, until this issue happened. The car has 180K miles on it, im really thinking of just spending the money and getting it rebuilt cause I feel itll easily drive another 60-80k miles. Man this sucks!!

My mantra when considering on spending money on a car: How much is a new car payment? Nowadays you're looking at around $500. If he can do it for $500-600 consider it, otherwise I would walk away. You can try and get a used transmission from a salvage yard if it's too much to get yours rebuilt or have a new one put in. 180,000 is starting to get up to a lot of miles though, so if your transmission is crapping out, don't be shocked if the motor is not far behind.
Still, I'm not a manual transmission specialist to say if it's something major inside the trans or if it might be something relatively simple, so see what it would cost to have him drop it look inside before going further. Or wait for a forumer who actually knows something about these transmissions to give you their opinion
I'm not convinced it's internal just yet. Can you move the link at the trans and change gears?
Well my mechanic he put everything back together but while he had it open he tried everything to move it into the different gears and was not able to do so.
