94 prizm engine 1.6L trouble

My son was driving the car and said the engine just quit. Fortunatly I have an OBD1 / 2 code reader. I got codes 42 and 43. Vehcle speed sensor and starter circuit. The engine turns over but does not crank.
94 Prizm, 130k miles, new timing belt at 125k. Auto 3 speed.
Will either of these two codes prevent the engine from starting? I cleared the codes and now no codes are present but still will not start.
Any ideas?

Engine quit while driving? Check the starter cables, battery positive and negative ends for corrosion, make sure they are tight. Make sure the battery has enough juice to start the car.

If it is a starter problem, you might try hitting it with a metal stick and see if it helps.If it does it is the starter.

These are what came to my mind right now. I hope it is nothing serious/costly to repair.
