Valve adjustment for 4A-FE?

Does anyone know the valve specs for the 4A-FE engine? I tried searching this forum and couldn't find anything. If there is no write up to this then I will probably try and do one with pictures and everything. Thanks in advance!

Wait.. NVM looks like these Toyota engines are a pain in the ass to adjust valves lol. Its nothing like my Honda. No wonder theres not many DIY threads on how to adjust them here. You have to replace the shims, measure and everythang!

The trade off is you have to adjust your Honda'a rocker arm set screws often because of valve train wear. The wear is minimal for the Toyota so to have something wear enough to have to change a shim is rare.

Thanks for that link.

If the person is really good at math, it should not be all that difficult

Adjusting valves on Hondas are easy. I have yet to do valve lash on a Toyota though.

Yup. JDM H22A with a JDM F20B T2T4 LSD 5spd trans. I built the head with Skunk2 Pro2 cams, & Skunk2 Pro valvetrains. It puts out 200whp/156wtq on a dynojet. I just ordered a JDM H22A Euro R intake mani from roskoracing as well. Hoping for 210whp on my next tune when I go in after the IM installed.

From someone who has been dealing woith shim valve adjustment in motorcycles since the 80's......

If its too tight install one size smaller, too loose install one size bigger. That will handle 99.5% of any shim changes you might have to deal with. No math or expensive measuring tools needed. If you ever do this job, write down all the shim sizes as you go. Usually a few swaps and a couple of new sizes are all you need to get the job done. Install shims with the NUMBERS DOWN!

Have fun.

Nice man.. I actually had an h2b in my ek. Was a completely stock JDM h22a motor obd1. Made 205whp 161wtq tuned by Bubba from Doitdyno in Socal. Was using a b16a2 transmission with a QSD h2b kit. Only mods was a 2.5 exhaust, air intake, and Camp1320 drag headers. It was a beast man. Coulda made more if I would have bought the Rosco Euro R intake manifold kit and some head work. But your setup is fast for an Accord.

Yeah I want to try and adjust the valves on the Corolla since Im new to Toyota but changing the shims is something new to me lol. Any "do it yourself" links with pictures that you can find? I really want to or should adjust the valves on my Corolla. Its starting to act up a bit :/

If I can get some help or instructions on how to do it then I could probably do a thread with pictures and instructions on how to adjust it. I was thinking of buying a manual but wanted to see if anyone had any free links first

Thanks. I love H2B, they make tons of power with just a B-Series trans. Have a few buddies whose running H2B EH & EJ Hatches putting down 13-12 sec on a quarter mile track. Pretty fast.
