Question 96 Corolla 1.8L Please Help

As the title says please help, I bought this car from a friend of mine who swore up and down there was nothing wrong. Well lets just say there is something wrong and after alot of money into towing and parts we are at a loss.
Here is what happened. I filled up about 2 months ago, the car was running good, got to three-quarters of a tank of gas and went to pull out of a parking lot and the car died. It wouldn't restart. It was almost like it was starving for fuel. So we changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, distrubator cap, and rotar. The car ran fine. Finished that tank of gas and refilled. One week later got to three-quarters of a tank again and the car started having a miss in it and then died again. So this time we changed the plug wires and plugs, EGR valuve, Mapp sensor, and a intake sensor. Ran a can of sea foam in it to clean the injectors. The car would run in park or neutral but in drive or reverse after the engine was warm had to keep a foot on the brake and give it a little gas to keep it running. Two weeks ago, I filled up and got about 30 miles on this tank, while driving it died. It will turn over and start but is running real rough. To the point you cant drive it. I have had it put on a computer and the codes we are getting is misfire in cylinder 1 and not enough fuel to the EGR valuve. These are new codes. So we have changed the plugs, wires and distrubator cap and rotar again yesterday. Now the car is very hard to start if it will start at all. We are at a loss on it and don't want to sink alot of money into it until we know what is wrong.
I was curious on if anyone else has had this problem or might know what it might be. It is a 1996 Corolla 1.8L. We are open to any suggestions or help anyone might be able to give us.
Thanks

Just my two cents worth, but to me you have checked everything pretty good, your problem seems intermittent but getting worse. You don't say weather or not you have replaced the distributor itself, inside the distributor are key components that will cause this type of problem, total loss of fire at any time, or running rough, etc. Try replacing the distributor with a known good oneand then check. I just experienced the same thing you are and the distributor itself was the problem. 50 bucks at the junk yard. Hope in some small way this helps.

Check the fuel pressure regulator to see if it's bad. There might be a pin hole on the diaphragm causing it to pour fuel to cause a misfire. This happened on one of my classmate's Infiniti QX4 truck that we did in Auto Tech class. Turned out to be a defective FPR.

And I'd do what Marsala4 said on the ignition part. Also make sure that all the injectors are clicking as they should using a screw driver or sethoscope.
