gen 7 Headers

A friend from overseas is asking if headers kits sold on ebay can be installed on his Corolla with 1.6Lt. engine.

Almost each and every one of listed headers are for 1.8lt. Is there a difference in size that makes it impossible to install these on 1.6 Corollas?

Hi mate

It depends if your friends engine is a 4AFE or a 4AGE (both 1.6L).

The headers for the 1.8L are for the 7AFE. A few people have installed the 7AFE headers onto their 4AFE (including myself but on a 4AF instead) The downpipe will sit lower and may hit road if your car is sitting too low. But you can always get it sorted out at a muffler shop.

But if your friend's engine is a 4AGE, he will need to get headers made for that engine.

I hope that helps

As mentioned above, the 7A-FE header is slightly longer, but it will still fit. There used to be about 4 different listings for the 1.6L 4A-FE header but all that I ever seem to see on there now are headers for the 1.8L 7A-FE.

The OBX header is made to fit the 1.6L, but it's more expensive that the other 'no brand' headers:

Thanks for the reply Kiwi-Corolla, it seems he should buy the one for 7A-FE since it is way cheaper than the one for 4A-FE.

I have a 1994 Geo Prizm with 7A-FE engine. I used to think everything outside the engine is the same on both cars. Even the engine appears to be exactly the same looking from outside.
