Canada Check engine light

Hi, my sister has a 97 corolla (1.6L) and the check engine light has been on for a bit.
When i went to check it and get the codes using the T1 and E1 jumper wire method, the light never flashed any code. It was on all the time. The engine was at normal temperature and I tried putting it in both park and neutral (its an automatic).
Do I need to get a code reader since it is a post 96 model when they started installing the ODBII service port?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank

POI
Andrei P

Hi Andrei, yes, you'll need to get the codes read with an OBD-II scanner as Toyota changed from OBD-I to OBD-II in late 1995. Your local auto electrician should be able to check the codes for you for a small charge, or maybe even for free if you're lucky
