Question Tune-up recommendations

Hey guys,

Been browsing these forums for a while now and I gotta say there's a wealth of info on here. Glad to see such a loyal following for a car that most people consider as old/shabby.

My corolla is possibly/probably due for a tune up. As far as I can tell from the maintenance record the spark plugs/wires have never been changed. The spark plug wires themselves say "Denso 1997" or something like that. The car is approaching 145k miles.

My questions are
1. I'm thinking Spark plugs, Spark plug wires, PCV valve to start. Get the easier stuff out of the way first. Are there any specific models of spark plugs and wires you guys suggest? I know NGK has a good reputation on this board, but any specific model I should look for?

2. Anything else I should consider that's good on the cost-benefit scale?

3. Which online sellers do you consider as having a good reputation? I live in Houston and there's an Autozone a couple blocks away so I usually go to that.

Thanks guys.

for a full tune up spark plugs cables, get rid of everything old air filter pcv valve, clean out ur throttle body for built up carbon deposits, i would recommend doing to timing belt and water pump and drive belts if u havent done so already, but i would take that to a mechanic, and while ur at it clean take out ur old coolant, and also get rid of ur old trans fluid. and i would recommend after market parts for ur car but i olny use dealer parts i get parts employee discount.

By the way I've already cleaned throttle body, changed air filter, replaced timing and drive belts, and flushed coolant and tranny fluid.

I'd leave the spark plug wires unless they are cracked or melted. The OEM wires are silicone and are virtually a lifetime part.

Yes, get a new PCV valve.

As for spark plugs, NGK and Denso iridiums are very good. I have the NGK Iridium IX.

You can get all these at Autozone.

Ya i have the NGK iridium in my car right now. They were $30 cad from my part source. They said there good for like 180,000km. And the G power NGk were like for 80-90,000km. and they were 15$ so don't really matter you'll end up spending the same money. it's just if you don't have the money now to spend go with the g power. u'd just have to change them once more.

As for the PCV value i've always gone with the dealer part. I don't remember exectly but it's not that expensive

Good luck.... Maybe the distributor cap you can take it off and inspect the 4 contact points as well.
