So, as the fun of having a nearly mint base model Corolla in my possesion has worn off, I'm wondering how easy it is to add factory options? I'd like to have things like power windows/mirrors, rear defrost and (gasp!) intermittent wipers. Anyone have any experience with this?

I have done investigations on doing exactly this on an 8th gen.
With enough time and all the factory literature, it can be done.
Variable intermittent is the easiest of these - switch out the combination switch and you're done. At least on the 8th gen.
Power mirrors (PM) is next - find the mirrors and switch, run the wiring. Power mirrors drop right in. Dash should have a place for the switch, taken either by a blank or coin holder. It might even be partially pre-wired.
For power door locks (PDL) and windows (PW) you will need to switch out the interior door panels. With PW all 4 needs changing; PDL the front. Also need to change the actual latches on the doors. Of course, wiring in the door will need to be redone. Also assuming you have no power options, there is possibliity that you will have no holes in the rear door panel for wires to go through. It might be easier to get a door panel with all power options. Integration relay may also be different.
I say get them all. Get FSM and wiring diagrams. Get garage space. Do it in stages. Variable intermittent first as a confidence boost , then PM, then PDL+PW in the front, then PDL+PW in the rear. Scout junk yards for electrical bits. Practice extracting various parts intact. No cutting unless absolutely necessary. As you proceed feel free to come back and ask questions.
Good luck.

Thanks Buurin. I was hoping maybe Toyota had wired the cars for all options and just left them out accordingly. The wipers and gauge cluster are going to be first. Manual or not, I like to have a tach. Rear defrost would also be a great add-on... I know, unheard of up north. Needless to say I was confused my self, being from about two hours away from you in upstate NY lol. But Floridians feel they don't need heat or defrorst...

Hit the Thanks button in my post...
Oh for rear defrost you'll need to change out the rear windshield then wire it up. Probably get the switch too.

You are looking at a TON of work man. A TON of work. Did I say a TON of work??
Like Buurin is saying, you've got to basically get another car to swap all the parts over. The DX models have all of this, and if the option was not requested by the owner, the wiring is still there. So like mine, came with everything including sunroof, but no power mirrors?!?! I had all of the wiring there, just had to add the switch and mirrors.
Yeah you are looking at finding a rare intermittent wiper switch, replacing the rear windshield, ripping the dash apart, ripping the doors all apart..... and those power lock actuators and power window motors are a huge pain to mess with because they are sandwhiched inside of the door metals.
I am kind of in the same boat. I have a base model that runs great and is very clean but it lacks all the options. So far I have added the following factory options to it:
1) Intermittent wipers
2) Gauge cluster with Tachometer
3) Power mirrors and switch
4) Trunk light
5) Digital dash clock
6) Center storage console
7) Trunk reflector panel
I am going to attempt the power windows and locks as soon as I can find a suitable donor car at the local pick and pull.

Yea, I mean, it would've been great to find a car this clean with all the options already installed, but it does give me an excuse to spend money on it and play with it. You've got a list that is almost identical to mine and a few local pick and pulls have a ton of these cars so I shouldn't have too much trouble. The worst is most likely the rear defrost. Glass is a PITA.

I got a base model too. But mine came with a clock. I also installed a small sunpro tach. Trunk light is really easy to install. I went to a junk yard and got all the parts for about 5 bucks. You need to run your own wiring.
Corollas came without a trunk light??? what lol? At least that is an easy addition. Same with the center storage armrest and the trunk reflectors. Even the OEM tachometer is very easy to install.
is the intermittent wiper switch plug and play? I'd like to replace the normal one with this and I think I Saw a LHS somewhere around here but I was wondering if it would be fully functional?
