Code Deciphering

Hi, I have a video of a couple of codes but the thing is I don't know why the o/d off light flashes as well.
It's from a 93 Corolla 1.8L engine.
Any helpful information would be appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure why the o/d light is blinking "42" as well, but I assume you are figuring out why you lost RPM and VSS data to the ECM? Good luck.

eguzman05,

With codes indicating periods of no data for the speed sensor and RPM sensor, it would seem logical your speedometer wouldn't be working either. Trouble shoot starting at your sensors to find the problem. If you don't have a manual, get a Haynes, Chiltons, etc.

Haynes says 'check Vehicle Speed Sensor, wiring between VSS and ECM, combination meter' for code 42 (4flashes, pause, 2 flashes).

Update

Replaced the VSS and sure enough it fixed both codes, but not the speedometer.

Good to hear it solved your problem.

How much did the VSS cost? Is it OEM part or aftermarket?

Both the engine AND transmission need vehicle speed to make them both operate correctly.

If you speedo doesnt work, its probably the speedo iteself. Change it or the cluster.
