What can I check? Engine is 1.8. 190 183 185 192 are the compression levels in cold engine. And it. Doesn't burn any oil. Ideas?

could be possible that the timing is wrong? my friend told me to check the timing. to buy a digital timing light (gun) and use it to see the motor grades...

what is it idling at... I've had bad thermostats that cost me about that much in fuel as it idles too high. (it thinks it's cold all the time) I know that sounds silly, but you may be surprised at the results. Also there is a small pathway between the air intake and the EGR valve that gets clogged up with carbon.
