Hey guys, I have a 93 automatic Corolla. Recently replaced timing&WATERPUMP, TRANS FLUID&FILTER, FUEL FILTER, SPARK PLUGS, WIRES, CAP, MOTOR, PCV VALVE, OIL&FILTER , & AIRFILTER . I've owned the car for 2years now. Problem is slow acceleration on 1st gear only. ALWAYS HAD THIS PROBLEM WHEN I BOUGHT IT. Once passed 1st, no problems. When on 1st, I hear it sucking air but it struggles to accelerate. WHAT CAN THIS BE. ? TRANS DOESN'T SEEM TO SLIP . NEED. HELP

Even though you changed the tranny fluid do you know what color it was before the change or now?
When I changed it the first time, it was black. Now is black/redish . Maybe cause I added Lucas trans treatment. I was thinking maybe it us the trans. What color fluid should it be?
yeah 1st gear doesn't do much, it should shift out of that almost immediately and only is used when starting from a complete stop. Does it have overdrive, or is it 3 speed?

Ok, Its on "D"rive, and it does shift out of 1st after it. picks up speed. Put it this way, its sucking air like its going fast but in s/ow motion. My car does have overdrive but not sure if its working correctly because its blinking all the time. If I turn it off, light will stay on with od light off .. If I turn it on, it'll keep on blinking. Sorry, I didn't mention this in my first post.
its not starting in first. Put it into L (at the bottom) and see how it feels there in terms of acceleration. Then turn the car off, jump TE1 and E1 in the diagnostic box, turn the key to RUN but do not start the car, and get the trans code from the blinking OD light.
This is what I usually do when I accelerate. I POP the gear on low & move my way up. No problems when I do this. Also, is there another way to get the codes cause I don't have a code reader to check the diagnostic box.
I told you just above how to pull the codes, if you have to put it into L to get first gear then its not starting in 1st when in D. You need to pull the code to try to determine what is wrong before you permanently damage the trans.

All you need is a paper clip or some other small piece of wire to jump TE1 and E1 as Bitter indicated. If you don't have a manual, consider getting a Haynes or Chiltons, money well spent.

Follow what Bitter said to pull the codes. A code reader isn't required for pre-95 OBD-I models. For more information, refer to this post:
